Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have questions for us? Don't worry, most people do have worries, concerns, or basic curiosities about having their portrait taken professionally. Here's our responses to some of the most common questions we receive... |
When can I schedule my session? |
| You may schedule your session during our operating hours Tuesday through Friday from 9:00 until 5:00 and Saturdays from 9:00 until noon. |
How long does a portrait session take? |
Portrait sessions vary depending on group size, ages of children, number of outfits, and various other factors. We always reserve two and a half hours for seniors. Most families take one to one and a half hours, and we usually reserve one hour for children. At DENNY'S we like our clients to feel relaxed, not hurried or rushed. We allow plenty of time to change clothing and freshen up so you look your best. Plus, we do our best to help you look wonderful. Some may call it being picky, we call it striving for perfection! |
What clothing do you recommend? |
The basic rule for clothing is try for simplicity. In general, dark colors photograph best. Bright colors and large patterns, such as stripes or polka dots, tend to draw the attention away from the face. For groups, choose a color for everyone to coordinate with. This will create a more unified appearance. Don’t try a new hairstyle the day of your session. A style you’re familiar with usually works the best. Men, a week old haircut photographs well. Try to shave within an hour of your session; a five o’clock shadow can’t be retouched. If you wear glasses, see if you can borrow an empty set of frames from your optometrist for your session. If not, you can take the lenses out of your own frames. Glare and distortion from glasses is difficult to retouch, so this is well worth the extra effort. |
Where can my session be? |
You may choose a variety of locations for your portraits. Denny has a large selection of indoor and outdoor backgrounds at the studio. He often travels to Harmon Park and Cottonmill Park in Kearney to take advantage of the beautiful outdoor backgrounds. Denny is also happy to photograph families in their home. For an additional fee, Denny will travel to a location outside Kearney for your special portrait. |
Will you photograph different groupings? |
For families, Denny is happy to photograph smaller groups the same day as the session for no additional charge. |
When can I see my pictures? |
You will be able to view your images approximately one week after your session. You will see all the images enlarged at the studio. You will also receive a preview book of your images, each the size of a wallet, to take home and share. At this time you will make an appointment to place your order and view the images again, in approximately two weeks. |
How long will it take to get my finished order? |
Your finished order is guaranteed to be ready within six weeks of the date you place your order. We will contact you if your order is done sooner. |
What about money? |
A $100 deposit is due when you make your appointment. This deposit will be used toward your finished order. On the day of your session, the session fee is due. A $150 deposit toward your finished order is due when you pick up your preview book. One half of your portrait order is due when you place your order. |
What is a pre-session consultation? |

We would be happy to give you a tour of the studio and show all we have to offer. A 30 minute appointment is recommended for this. |
